Spring Into Action With Outdoor Sports!

APRIL 6TH, 2021

Spring is in the air! The birds are chirping, snow is thawing, and buds are just starting to bloom across the country. It’s the perfect time of year to build girls up by taking them on an outdoor adventure.

Just about all sports are great for girls, but outdoor sports hold a special place in our hearts because of the adventure factor. Nature adds an element of daring and surprise to any outing, so it’s perfect for teaching girls to be courageous and bold. Here are a few of our favorite spring adventures for girls.

1) Cycling

Cycling is great for girls because you can travel long distances relatively easily. For a spring challenge, try road biking to a destination for a picnic lunch (via a route that feels safe to you, of course), or doing some light mountain biking to a vista point. For more info about biking with girls, check out our guide.

2) Kayaking

Most people think of kayaking as a summer sport, but it doesn’t have to be. Kayaking feels a bit more adventurous in the spring and can be a lot of fun even when it isn’t hot out. Just bundle up in quick drying clothes and a life jacket, and head to a lake near you. Learn more here.

3) Hiking

Hiking makes every list we ever make because it’s fun, inexpensive and accessible. If you’re looking for a truly adventurous hike, consider going out in the rain instead of avoiding it. Just don some rain gear, find a trail that isn’t too muddy and go for it! Check out our site for more info about taking girls hiking.
Spring weather can be unpredictable and there’s an element of risk in every outdoor sport, so always check conditions and talk to local experts to make sure things are safe before heading out.

See you on the trail!
Your Back-to-School Cheat Sheet—What to Buy/Where

July 22ND, 2021

School is starting soon and it's time for back-to-school shopping. Some kids are returning to a somewhat "normal" version of school for the first time in a year and may be a little apprehensive about it.

We like the idea of including a fun item or two in your school supply list designed to put a smile on your little girl's face or lift her up a bit during that first week back. Here are some of our favorite back-to-school supplies for the 2021-2022 school year.

We love the idea of getting a backpack that works for school and weekend adventures. This pack is high-quality and great for both. It's a little smaller than a traditional Jansport-style pack so make sure the size will work for you if your child needs to haul a lot of stuff.

This pack is a fun and fierce option for Wonder Woman fans. We like the combination of Wonder Woman's strength and the color pink. This is a good option for girls that are strong and girly.

We're all about neoprene lunch bags right now because they're flexible and easy to wash. (Most are machine washable—hooray!) This Cats In Space bag is a fun choice for silly girls and space lovers. It also comes in 25 other fun designs and is very reasonably priced.

If you're looking for notebooks, this pack comes with 12 lined books, great for school and independent writing. We like the small size (4 x 5.7 inches—very portable), fun sayings, and low price.

These colored pencils from Target's new brand Mondo Llama are fun, vibrant and an incredible deal. They make a great accompaniment to any backpack.

We were so thrilled when we discovered these people-colored pencils from Target. We love the vibrancy of the pencils mentioned above, but find that having realistic skin toned pencils makes it much easier to create introspective art pieces like self portraits.

When it comes to masks, it's hard to beat Old Navy's combination of fun designs and affordability. Plus, they've got more mask shapes and patterns to choose from.

We hope these suggestions make your back-to-school prep a little easier.
