AUGUST 29TH, 2023
These DIY spin drums are not only a fun and engaging activity, but they also empower girls to discover the joy of music, rhythm and self-expression. Whether your daughter is a budding musician or simply loves to get creative, our step-by-step instructions will guide her through the process of making her own unique spin drum. Get ready to drum up some excitement for this fun craft!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Small pieces of cardboard (we cut up an Amazon box)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glue
- Black Marker
- Markers or paint (we used paint markers)
- A circle stencil (we used a cup)
- String
- 2 Pony Beads
- Paper circles can be any color
- Bamboo skewer
How To Make Your Spin Drums:
Step 1: Trace two circles the same size on the pieces of cardboard.
Step 2: Cut the circles out.
Step 3: Glue the pointed side of the bamboo skewer onto the back side of your circle.
Step 4: Take the other circle and glue it on top of the skewer. Let the glue dry.
Step 5: Use another kabob stick to poke two holes on each side of the circle. We used the skewer to make sure the holes were even.
Step 6: Cut the string 10 inches long to make sure you are able to tie double knots. Then loop and tie through the holes.
Step 7: Tie a pony bead to the end of each string. Make sure it will hit the drum when it spins.
Step 8: Trace two paper circles the same size as the cardboard circles.
Step 9: Cut the circles out.
Step 10: Draw a design on each paper circle.
Step 11: Color the design on each paper circle.
Step 12: Glue the paper circles to the drum.
Once the glue is dry, it’s time to make music! Try prompting your child to make a fast or slow rhythm. For an added challenge, have them play the spin drum to the beat of their favorite song, or create their own!
