How to Make Puffy Sidewalk Paint
If you’re like us, you’re always on the lookout for new outdoor projects, and this is a fun one. Summer is the perfect time to make your own puffy sidewalk paint! It’s like sidewalk chalk, but better. Making puffy sidewalk paint is a simple activity that girls will enjoy because it’s loads of fun. And if you do it Hopscotch Girls style, it’s uplifting too.
The best thing about this artsy activity is that you likely already have most of the supplies you’ll need—just check your bathroom and kitchen.

Supplies
You’ll need these items to make puffy sidewalk paint:
- ¼ cup of flour
- ¼ cup of water
- ¼ cup of shaving cream
- ½ stick of sidewalk chalk
- Grater
- Mixing spoon
- Small bowl
- Squeeze bottle (an empty ketchup or mustard bottle can also work)
- Funnel (helpful, but not a must-have)
How To
Step 1
Put the flour and water in the bowl and mix it together.
Step 2
Grate a stick of sidewalk chalk into the bowl and then mix. This will add color to your puffy paint. You can substitute the chalk with a few drops of food coloring, but the food coloring may stain your driveway or sidewalk.
Step 3
Add ¼ cup of shaving cream to the bowl and mix until it is well combined.
Step 4
Place a funnel into your squeeze bottle and pour the mixture into the funnel. Now you’re ready to head outside and create beautiful sidewalk art!
Squeeze out your puffy paint to draw and write about what makes you or your family special. Here are a few ideas:
- I am brave
- I am curious
- We love to laugh
- We are loving
It’s important to use all your puffy paint the same day you mix it, because the flour will harden if it stays in the bottle too long. Also, if you have trouble getting the puffy paint out of your squeeze bottle, just snip the tip of the bottle to make the spout a little wider.
That’s it! We hope you enjoy this fun project.
