STEM + Art = 💖
When you ask girls what they want to be when they grow up, what do they tell you?
They may say they want to be a doctor, teacher, nurse or even an astronaut. Despite these great career choices, the reality is that women are still lagging behind men when it comes to STEM jobs. In case you’re unfamiliar, STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Right now women make up less than 25% of people who have STEM-related jobs. Changing this starts with introducing girls to STEM learning in a way they find fun and engaging.
What is STEAM learning?
STEAM is powerful because it takes the science/engineering part of learning and combines it with the arts so kids can use their creativity too. This makes STEM learning more appealing to kids that aren’t naturally drawn to the field and helps kids develop problem-solving skills.
Why is STEAM learning important?
But, we need to start now.
Try it out!
- Watercolors & oil
This artsy science experiment is easy to setup and doesn’t require a trip to the store! - Crystal garden
Grow some colorful crystals right in your kitchen. - Sculpey ships
Introduce her to engineering and density by making little boats out of clay. - Science stickers
If you’d rather keep your hands clean, check out our book, Science! STEM Sticker Adventure. It’s a mess-free way to start talking about science, curiosity and exploring the natural world.
