STEM + Art = 💖

When you ask girls what they want to be when they grow up, what do they tell you?

They may say they want to be a doctor, teacher, nurse or even an astronaut. Despite these great career choices, the reality is that women are still lagging behind men when it comes to STEM jobs. In case you’re unfamiliar, STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Right now women make up less than 25% of people who have STEM-related jobs. Changing this starts with introducing girls to STEM learning in a way they find fun and engaging.

What is STEAM learning?

This is where STEAM comes in. (STEM + the arts.) The terms STEAM and STEM really started being a thing in the 1990s. Basically, STEAM is a project-based way of learning that helps kids see the big picture and solve problems. It encourages them to be more creative, ask questions, be entrepreneurial, and figure out how to get from point A to point B.

STEAM is powerful because it takes the science/engineering part of learning and combines it with the arts so kids can use their creativity too. This makes STEM learning more appealing to kids that aren’t naturally drawn to the field and helps kids develop problem-solving skills.

Why is STEAM learning important?

STEAM education is important because it opens the door to a range of high paying careers for women, and a future with more women in positions of power. STEAM learning lights the fire of innovation and leadership, skills girls can really use as they get older.

But, we need to start now.

Try it out!
