5 Books for Determined Girls
AUGUST 25TH, 2020
We’re always on the look out for good books for girls, and we’re excited to share some of our recent finds. We love these books because they share stories of female determination and spirit, while still being fun to read.
This is truly one of the most incredible books we’ve ever read! All the Way to the Top tells the story of Jennifer Keelan-Chaffins, a remarkable girl who attended her first protest at six years old. She was one of the few wheelchair-bound children that pulled herself up the steps of the US Capitol in support of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which ultimately contributed to its passing. She’s an exceptional example of determination and how children can make a difference in the world.
This book walks young readers through the life of famous physicist Wu Chien Shiung. We like how it starts with her childhood and shows how someone that may seem ordinary at first can do extraordinary things.
This book of poetry celebrates life as a girl and everything that entails—creativity, strength, dreams, friendship, solidarity, family, and more. This is the perfect book for times when bedtime routines run long and you want to read something beautiful and impactful, but don’t have a lot of time to do it.
This graphic novel tells the story of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s upbringing and ascension to the Supreme Court. There are lots of biographies of successful women on the market today, but not many graphic novels, so this book really stands out. The publisher recommends the book for girls age 10+, but it could also be read outloud to younger girls (over time—it’s nearly 200 pages long).
If you liked the original Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, you’ll enjoy this inspiring sequel. This book is packed with even more biographies and the same beautiful art as the first book.
We hope you enjoy these selections!
